Houston monument not damaged by Hurricane Rita

We can be very thankful that the USS Houston monument in downtown Houston was not damaged from Hurricane Rita. However, it has suffered from the extremely hot and dry conditions in Houston this year and some minor repairs will soon need to be made.

Thanks to the people of Houston

Many USS Houston survivors and Next Generation-ers send their thanks and appreciation to the people of Texas and especially Houston for their kindness and generosity to the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Sue Kreutzer, daughter of Paul Papish, writes "This is not the first time the great and honorable people of Houston have rallied behind their fellow Americans in a great time of need. What would America do without you? What an example of courage and generosity you are to us all! While we who live far away can only watch and agonize with the victims of Katrina, you all have physically "stepped up to the plate" once again! Thank you so much for easing the suffering of our fellow Americans in need. We salute you!"

Gus Forsman

Gus Forsman is in the VA hospital with pneumonia. There is concern about his oxygen levels since he has COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) as well, but he has been on mega doses of antibiotics and his daughter Diane says he is doing much better.

Jim McFarland

Jim "TJ" McFarland peacefully passed away on 9-2-05. Our sincere condolences to his family.
